Why AI Agent UX Cannot Stop at Chat

Chat is good for ambiguity, exploration, and back-and-forth. It is a poor interface for entering a complex configuration, comparing several options, or authorizing a consequential action.

Use a form when the agent needs complete, structured input. Use a comparison view when trade-offs need to be inspected side by side. Use an approval screen when a person must understand scope, cost, risk, or irreversible effects before an action runs. Return to conversation when context or intent needs clarification.

The transition should feel earned. Explain what information has been carried forward, what the person can still change, and what will happen next. An agent feels more capable when it chooses the right surface for the job, not when it insists on keeping every task inside a chat bubble.
